Omega Laser Facility Users Group Workshop

24–26 April 2019 | Rochester, NY

OLUG Subsidy Information

In addition to full coverage* of all registration fees for students and post-docs (which covers breakfast and lunch for three days, break snacks, and dinner at Delmonico's) and shuttle service from the University of Rochester's College Town parking garage to LLE, OLUG has made available some funds through the support of the U.S. Department of Energy/NNSA, for a limited number of travel subsidies for selected student and post-doc subsidy applicants. Each subsidy includes room sharing in a two-double-bed room for three nights, April 23, 24 and 25. Also, a reasonable level of economy-class travel reimbursement will be provided. Points of contact for student and postdoc travel arrangements are Stephanie Sherwood and Timothy Ledford from ORAU (stephanie.sherwood@orau.org, Tim.Ledford@orau.org), so please involve them before you book airline, hotel, rental car, bus, or train reservations.

The Executive Board requests applications for these funds, before 15 February 2019, the intent of which is to defray a significant portion of the cost of travel. The Executive Committee will disperse the funds according to the guidelines listed below, and notify applicants of their awards.

The guidelines for support are based on:

  1. Relevance to program, for example,
    1. ICF
    2. Short-pulse laser physics, relativistic physics, particle acceleration
    3. Materials, shock, warm-dense matter, x-ray generation
    4. Laboratory astrophysics
    5. Laser-plasma instabilities, energy transport
    6. HED science
    7. A first-time prospective user of OMEGA
  2. Distance traveled
  3. The number of total applicants
  4. The number of applicants from the same institution

Applicants for travel financial aid need request of their supervisor, or the PI of their associated program, a short justification of the reasons for the aid. Please email these justifications to Mark Koepke and Johan Frenje before 15 February 2019. If a foreign national and applying for financial aid, you'll need to give your visa status and citizenship.
